Sad milestone for Greece: Covd-19 deaths exceeded 3,000 on Sunday, after another 101 people died in the past 24 hours. Health authorities announced also 904 new coronavirus cases and 600 patients intubated in . in hospitals ICUs.
Death toll has reached 3,003 and the total cases stand at 115,471.
597 Covid-19 patients died in the country between December 1 and 6.
For the first time since mid of November the daily cases are below 1,000, yet, again there have been less tests carried out due to the weekend.
The situation in northern Greece remains grim. Dozens are awaiting for ICU beds in Papanikolaou hospital, one of the biggest, ones designated for Covid-19. Speaking to Thema FM, the head of COVID-19 ICU Nikos Kapravlos said on Sunday that there are 200 Covid-patients waiting for ICU bed.
“It is a storm that doesn’t flow up,” he said warning that the hospital suffers from “tragic shortages that cost lives.”
A bed in ICU is empty for just half an hour, before it is occupied by another patient,” Kapravalos said adidng that the hospital receives Covid-19 patients from other regions like Naousa, Edessa and others that do not have the capacities in their local hospitals.

According to the official daily bulletin on Sunday, 4986(4.3%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 30594 (26.5%) are related to already known infection case.
The remaining infections are without known source.
52.8% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs rose again to 600 from 594 a day earlier. Their average age is 65, among them are 169 women. 75.3% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
651 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Another 101 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 3003. Of the deceased 1197 were women. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 96.2% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
Rolling weekly average cases at 1609 from 1807 last week.
Total tests since begin of the outbreak are 2,479,161.
Tests in the last 24 hours: 9,214 with 9.81% οf them positive. A good, normal number with less reason for concerns is when positive is below 2%.

5 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 0 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
