Taxi passenger limit suspended on New Year’s Eve and Jan 1

There will be no limit to the number of passengers allowed in a taxi for people visiting friends or family on New Year’s Eve December 31 and January 1, media report on Thursday. The exception to the rule of “one customer per taxi” over these two days refers to family members.

The transport with private cars remains limited to four people who also must be relatives.

Attica Traffic Police Commander, Spyros Laskos, confirmed to news website iefimerida that a relevant instruction has been given to all police officers for the specific days in order not to fine those the officers think that they have violated the rules.

The night curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. remains in place also over these two days.

People who intend to leave the house to attend a festive gathering must send an SMS message to 13033 with the option <6> for “personal exercise” as was the case on December 25. People must send also an SMS with <6> when they return home.

A maximum of nine people from two different families are allowed to attend New Year’s lunch gatherings.

In general, the same rules apply as over the two Christmas days.

Greek Police is deploying 10,000 policemen across the country to monitor compliance on main roads on Thursday evening and on Friday.
