Greece: 484 new coronavirus cases by much fewer tests; 15 more deaths

Greece’s health authorities announced on Sunday evening484 new coronavirus cases and 17 more deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients intubated in hospitals across the country stands at 255.

Death toll has reached 5,796 and the total cases stand at 156,057.

Note that again the PCR tests carried out in last 24 hours much fewer due to Sunday.

Blue PCR Purple Rapid Tests

Authorities placed the regional units of Halkidiki (North Greece), Lassithi (Crete) and Zakynthos (Ionian Sea) in tougher lockdown regime on Sunday due to epidemiological load.

More regional units and municipalities, including Athens and Attica were placed also in tougher lockdown on Friday. See Details here.

The first case infected with the mutated South African strain of Covid-19 was detected in a priest in Thessaloniki.

According to the official daily bulletin 5953 (3.8%) of the total coronavirus cases are related to travel abroad and 49216 (63.9%) are related to already known infection case.

The remaining infections are without known source.

52.0% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 255 from 257 a day earlier. Their average age is 69, among them are 187(73.3%) men. 86.7% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

1,113 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 17 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 5796. Of the deceased 3406(58.8%) were men. The average age of the deceased was 79 and 95.5% of them had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 725 from 491 last week.

Total tests since 1. Jan 2020 are 3,133,965 PCR and 1,047,350 Rapid Ag tests

Of the 484 new coronavirus cases, 10 were detected at the country’s entry points.

10 of the new cases were detected at entry points, plus 7more travelers were already in the country.
