Greece: 1630 new coronavirus cases, 29 more deaths, intubations at 379

Daily coronavirus infections remain high also on Saturday, when Greece’s health authorities announced 1630 new coronavirus cases and another 29 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients in intubation increased to 379.

Death toll has reached 6,468 and the total cases stand at 189,831.

The Civil Protection announced on Saturday evening total lockdown for the town of Malesina, Fthiotida, after Covid-19 tests earlier showed positivity of 10.4% and 40 new infections were confirmed. Citizens are allowed to exit their homes only for health reasons, supplies and pet walking. The measure is in force Feb 28-March 8, 2021

Friday evening the hard lockdown in Attica extended until March 8, 202, and 10 more regional units and municipalities were placed in tougher restrictions due to infections increase.

According to the official bulletin on Saturday, based on the confirmed cases on the last 7 days, 52 are related to travel abroad and 2550 are related to already known cases.

The released data do not allow any more the clues about the rate of infections without known source of contamination.

51.8% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs stands at 379 from 371 a day earlier. Their average age is 70, among them 71.0% are men. 84.2% have underlying health problems and/or are aged over 70.

New admission of Covid-19 patients to hospitals are 346 (daily change +28.15%). Average number of admission in 7 days: 285.

Average age of infected is 44 ( age range 0.2-105).

1338 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 29 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 6468. The average age of the deceased was 79 (age range  16-103). and 95.7% had underlying health problem and/or was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 1572 from 1074 last week.

Rapid tests last 24 hours: 22,742

Positivity PCR+Rapid tests: 3.54%

Of the 1630 new coronavirus cases, 5 were detected at the country’s entry points.

5 of the new cases were detected at entry points, and another 4 travelers were already in the country.
