Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis confirmed recent media reports that the government plans to gradually reopen the economy and lift the lockdown restrictions. The plans will be announced on Friday, March 19, the PM said.
In an interview with CNN International on Wednesday evening, Mitsotakis praised the so-called “digital green certificate”
on vaccination that will allow EU citizens to travel more freely within Europe. He said that he had proposed the certificate as a way of facilitating reopening borders safely during the pandemic crisis and ahead of the summer tourism season.
Mitsotakis expressed optimism that the curve of the pandemic’s third wave would flatten out and revealed that the government would announce gradual reopening plans within the next 48 hours.
In addition, he stressed the fact that the successful results of the 30-year Greek bond issue proves once again that Greece is out of an economic crisis for good.
