Greece: 3445 new coronavirus cases, 75 more deaths, 749 intubations

Greece’s health authorities announced on Wednesday evening, 3445 new coronavirus cases and 75 Covid-related deaths in past 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients in ventilators stands at 749.

Death toll has reached 8,607. Total confirmed infections since the begin of the pandemic 285,015.

The Covid-19 self-tests were distributed to pharmacies on Wednesday, however, not in individual kits but in 25-piece bulks. that pharmacists have now to pack individually somehow. Yet the government believes that students and teachers will be able to get one from April 8 in Athens and Thessaloniki and from April 9 in the rest of Greece.

At the live briefing on Wednesday, Education Minister Niki Kerameos announced that the three grades of Lyceums will open again on Monday, April 12, throughout the country. Two self-tests will be necessary per week. More details in separate post.

According to media reports, at least 6 epidemiologists advising the government and the country’s top expert Sotiris Tsiodras were against the opening of schools.

health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that 1,246,256 citizens (12.53%) have received the first dose of vaccinations against Covid-19 and 686,924 also the second one (6.54%.)

According to the official bulletin on Wednesday,based on the confirmed cases on the last 7 days, 94 are related to travel abroad and 2711 are related to already known cases.

The released data do not allow any more the clues about the rate of infections without known source of contamination.

51.4% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated coroinavirus patients stands at 749 from 751 a day earlier. Their average age is 68, among them 65.6% are men. 84.1% have underlying health problems and/or are aged over 70.

New admissions of Covid-19 patients to hospitals are 524 (daily change -0.38%) in the last 24 hours. Average number of hospital admissions in 7 days: 517.

Average age of infected is 44 ( age range 0.2-105).

1805 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Another 75 deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 8,607. The average age of the deceased was 79 (age range  16-103). and 95.7% had underlying health problem and/or was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average confirmed coronavirus cases at 3054 from 2621  last week.

Positivity PCR+Rapid tests: 6.24% (alert level over 4%)

Rt: 0.96 ( 0.98 previous week)

Daily growth at +1.2%.

9 of the new cases were detected at entry points, and in another 3 travelers already in the country.
