Vaccination platform opens for more age groups, high-risk groups B

Greece’s health authorities announced on Monday the vaccination schedule for several age groups and people with underlying health problems (Category B). The online platform will open for these groups from April 16.. At the same time, vaccination of those aged 60-64 extends to other vaccines than only with AstraZeneca.

Vaccines of Johnson & Johnson that require only one dose are expected in the country this week.

During the live briefing on the vaccination program, general secretary of Primary Health Care Marios Tthemistokleous stressed that the online platform will open for these specific groups on Friday, April 16, 2021.

He clarified, though, that for high-risk patients aged 18-59 (Category B*) – some 800,000 people – the platform opening will take place gradually from Friday, April 16, until Monday, April 19, and will depend on the disease group.

He said indicatively that for diabetes patients, the platform may open on Friday or possibly on Saturday.

For teachers and for the age group 55-59 the online platform for vaccination appointments will open on Wednesday, April 21.

For people age group 50-54, the platform will open on Saturday, April 24.

“We hope that if everything goes according to plan and the companies will deliver the vaccines according to schedule, the platform will open also for other age groups in the near future so that we can vaccinate our younger fellow citizens in June,” Themistokleous said.

He added that the appointment platform for the age group 60-64 for all vaccines has been open since 10 April. Previously the platform was open for this age group only for the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Themistokleous said that 2,212,000 vaccinations have been carried out to date. 1,468,000 citizens (14% of population) have been vaccinated with one dose and 743,000 (7% of the population) with two doses.

He announced that Greece will receive 33,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine on Wednesday, April 14. Vaccinations with J&J will start on Monday, April 19.
