These numbers will only deteriorate in the coming weeks. I see the flouting of basic hygiene rules everywhere, particularly among the young idiots who are more interested in partying than the common good.
There is also a gender issue here on Crete and probably elsewhere in Greece. “Real” men don’t mask up. But same real men bitch and moan about restrictions. Disconnect? Poor education? Genetic aberrations?
Anybody else think that opening the tourist season might not pan out too well for Greek citizens and residents
Yes, as was last summer.
Last summer there was no vaccine. Also, the virus hadn’t been circulating too much in Greece, so there wasn’t exposure or antibodies. Also they were only doing random testing on tourists. This year they are getting vaccines, everyone is getting tested, and there are a lot of antibodies circulating.
I know it is worrying, but there is reason to hope that this time it will be better.
Yesterday I was in Chania town for a doctor’s visit and to my surprise I saw a lot of people walking around or waiting in line with no mask. They want to save the summer but what I see is a lockdown once the tourist season is over and then we suffer with the consequences. People wear your mask.
