Vaccination in Greece’s migration camps on the islands started

The vaccination of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in the camps on the islands and the mainland was launched on Thursday.Vaccinations are scheduled to take place twice a week.

The vaccinations at the reception facilities at Kara Tepe on the island of Lesvos, VIAL on Chios and Vathy on Samos started on Thursday and will continue on Friday.

The vaccinationns will be done by mobile NPHO units on Thursdays and Fridays and from next week, depending on the planning and availability of single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines, vaccination of asylum seekers will begin on the islands of Kos, Leros and 10 reception facilities on the mainland.

Reporting from VIAL, state broadcaster ERT said that a campaign in favor of vaccinations took place in the previous days . It added that there is a positive response as people hope that the vaccination will also help them in the reaching their goals in the future.

Vaccination in the camps was originally scheduled for mid-May but it was possibly delayed due to J&J deliveries.
