The general 24-hour strike launched by public and private sector umbrella unions ADEDY and GSEE is expected to paralyze Greece on June 10, 2021. The strike will cause disturbances to transport of people and goods.
Ferries and ships will be docked at the ports and trains of Trainose and Proastiakos will be in their depots for 24 hours
Metro, Tram, Urban Train ISAP and trolley buses will not operate throughout the day, as well.
Only buses will be in service form 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Protest rally are scheduled to take place in downtown Athens and other cities on Thursday morning.
Also the union of journalists has joined the strike.
Workers in private and public sector oppose the new Labor Law that makes legal 10-hour work per day and unpaid overtime work for the exchange of a day-off.
Defending the Law with arguments not of this labor market world, Labor Minister Costis Hatzidakis has claimed that workers can take the day-off on Fridays.
Sometimes people should appreciate what they have – at the company I work for overtime is unpaid with no time off in exchange, we are expected to work at the weekend if required, & we haven’t had a salary increase for 8 years.
