PM Mitsotakis calls on UK’s Johnson to lift travel restrictions for Greece

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on British counterpart Boris Johnson to revise the travel restrictions for Greece which has remained on the UK’s “amber list” and requires travelers to quarantine for 10 days on return to the country. and taking two Covid-19 tests while in quarantine.

The call came during a meeting of the two leaders on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Brussels on Monday.

Mitsotakis briefed Johnson “on the improving epidemiological picture in Greece, expressing the view that this permits a lifting of restrictions for British tourists visiting the country on holiday, while asking that the UK not discriminate between different European countries,” according to a press release from the prime minister’s office.

  1. Oh Jesus….cases in UK rising like hell actually……their lockdown is extended of 4 more weeks and Mitsotakis is asking Johnson to send the Brits over…..get ready for the next lockdown in Greece! Is anyone of them using their brains?

    • As Delta variant causes British measures to be extended I as a Visitor/tourist of an EU country am not eager to meet British people in Greece as the Southeast Aegean islands are turning yellow again

  2. That’s all very nice but as the cases of the Delta variant are rising rapidly in the UK, they just postponed the easing of their restrictions & now have the highest Covid rate in Europe, do we actually WANT English tourists flooding into Greece just as our case numbers are getting to a manageable level?

Maybe it would be a better idea to see how things go in the UK for the next 4 weeks before opening the door to all manner of potential problems for Greece & its residents?

    • I agree with you, the published case numbers here look better however with reduced testing cases won’t be found, apart from this only 29% of the Greek population have been vaccinated, certainly.not the time to encourage tourists from UK for at least the four weeks extension when the situation can be reviewed. The UK are desperate to open everything up.and are vaccinating thousands of people every day.

  3. Err Mr. Greek Gobby. This time last year you banned UK flights for yet another month from now. Wind your neck in and shut it.

    • If Mr Mitsotakis wants to encourage British visitors, he needs to take a grip of the vaccination shambles here in Greece. The red tape involved must be costing a fortune, and is less than efficient, theres NO WAY covid is under control here, why would anyone want to visit ?
How can we get the message through to the people in power that they must get the vaccination programme more streamlined. get things moving before we all die of old age if not covid!!!
