Greece: 2,845 coronavirus cases, 12 deaths, 165 intubations; geo distribution

Greece’s health authorities announced on Friday 2,845 new coronavirus cases and 12 Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals Intensive Care Units increased further to 165.

PCR and Rapid tests in the past 24 hours hit a new record with 118,933 tests. Note that this may be due to summer vacations and the weekend where unvaccinated citizens need a PCR or Rapid test to travel to the islands by ferry or airplane.

The platform for vaccination appointments for age group 12-15 opened on Friday. Consent of parents is necessary.

Head of Civil Protection Nikos warned residents and visitors of the islands of Mykonos and Ios that restrictions will be imposed. He warned also another 4 islands and some touristic destinations on Crete. More details here.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 490,552 infections (daily change: +0.6%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 134 infections are related to travel abroad and 1812 to other confirmed cases.

51.2% of the infected are men.

There are 12 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the total of pandemic victims to 12,948.  Of these, 95.1% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.

A total of 165 Covid-patients – from 157 a day earlier – are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 65 years. 62.4% are men. 83% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.

2,806 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

207 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: +19.65%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 176.

The median age of new infections is 41 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 78 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).
