Greek PM: Unvaccinated banned from closed venues; Covid-Pass expires for all over 60

Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Thursday evening that unvaccinated citizens are banned from indoor venues and that all above 60 years old will be obliged to receive a booster shot as their vaccination certificate will expire after 7 months..

In his televised address to the nation, the Greek PM said that the new measures will go info force on Monday, November 22, 2021.

“All adult unvaccinated citizens, next to [closed] restaurants, will not enter other indoor spaces even with negative [RAPID Test of PCR] test,” Mitsotakis said nd named them as cinemas, theaters, museums or gyms.

“It is an immediate protection action and, of course, an indirect urge to get vaccinated,” he underlined.

However, he noted that unvaccinated churchgoers should have a negative laboratory test, as the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Greece has already called for.

He also said that the vaccination certificate for vaccinated persons over 60 years old would “expire” seven months after the administration of the full vaccination. This age group will be given one month time to receive the booster shot.

He added that large number of unvaccinated seniors are driving health crisis.

Mitsotakis said further that rolling working hours would also apply in the public and private sectors in order to avoid overcrowding, especially at rush hour times and on public transport means. Special provisions will apply for parents with schoolchildren.

He  added that controls would be ramped up.

Private doctors would be requisitioned to support the National Health System, he added.

Mitsotakis said his plan was for Greece “to have a better Christmas this year than last year.”

***As  restrictions and measures have turned quite complicated and confusing and many of us have lost the whole picture, KTG will write on a separate post on Friday what is valid, and allowed for whom: vaccinayed, unvaccinated, recovered, with Covid-Pass or test or who has to just sit at home. UPD:  Here are the new Covid-measures analytically and updated on Friday morning

Greece has seen in increase of coronavirus infections, deaths, intubations and hospitalizations in the last few weeks.
PS What is odd is that the same PM who said two days ago that an Austria style lockdown for unvaccinated would not be imposed. Now he did a nice copy-paste mix-match, a little bit from Austria and a little bit from France, incorporated his sister Dora Bakoyianni’s proposal for the “certificates over 60” and here we have a copy-cat recipe to combat the epidemic.
My copy-cat kitty would have done it better… but my kitty does not represent a state that loves to punish its citizens…
Don’t get me wrong: I am fully vaccinated and even got the booster shot, but I hate to have unvaccinated waiters and people at shop entrances to control my documents and even touch them, when they have held dozens if not hundreds belonging to other people before.

  1. ‘hate to have unvaccinated waiters and people at shop entrances to control my documents and even touch them..’
you do realise even vaxed people spread the virus?

  2. Please look at other countries eg Gibraltar, Ireland, Israel – the jabs are not immunisations, they don’t stop transmission or infection.

    • No, but they seriously reduce getting very sick and hospitalised. Just for the record, nearly 85% of the people needing intubation are unvaccinated or partly vaccinated.

  3. I don’t have a problem with the concept that you need to get the booster shot to be classed as fully vaccinated but to announce it on 18 November, along with a lot of restrictions if you haven’t, and have it apply from 22 November is a bit much even for Greece. I am certain that a lot of people who were getting close to qualifying for the booster will have got their flu shot instead. They will then have to wait at least 2 weeks or preferably 4 before getting their COVID booster. They are trying to do everything they can to protect themselves and not become a burden on the healthcare system but become victims of their own conscientiousness.

Are you serious when you write this :
I am fully vaccinated and even got the booster shot, but I hate to have unvaccinated waiters and people at shop entrances to control my documents and even touch them, when they have held dozens if not hundreds belonging to other people before.
Do you know that a vaccinated person can be as contagious as an unvaccinated person.
Because the vaccinated person no longer has to do the rapid tests…
Don’t you understand that they want to divide the people by category (divide and rule has existed since the era of time).
WHO’s head of emergency programme Mike Ryan has called the measures against unvaccinated people extreme and raises real questions against freedom and human rights !
Did you at least take the time to look at the links I sent you?
    Best regards
    Simon

    • still ydon’t get the point, guys

    • Dear Simon,
This is not what the sheeple want to hear. But I’m listening and there are many of us. That does not mean I am an anti vaxxer, but when will people realise we are being led down a dangerous path?

  5. Gov has very difficult job. They need to convince unvaxed people that vaccine works to get shot. While convincing vaxed that it does not work, to get revaccinated 🙂

  6. I received my booster shot two weeks ago but the hospital kept the piece of paper that the doctor had signed. Since then I have been wondering how do I prove I have had the booster? I have not found any information on this, perhaps someone out there knows?

  7. Thank God! The science shows that restaurants and closed spaces are dangerous, but Churches are fine! Great news!

  8. I would be more concerned about having to show your papers. Don’t forget that in mixed use ( where a Covid-Pass or Rapid Test for unvaccinated is required you will only catch the covid from vaccinated, who do not have to test)

  9. Strange how all these people who give negative comments, never offer their ideas as to what they think should be done by the government in order for all people vaccinated or not, can all be in peace and harmony and get through this pandemic.
So how about some sensible suggestions as to what people think should be done

    • I believe there a a couple of posts which mention that other countries using different protocols seem to be doing rather better than many EU states, including Greece. I would immediately liaise with them to discover what they are doing to save lives and implement the protocols as soon as possible.

      • Most politicians won’t look at those other countries’ strategies since they would have to admit that everything they have done until now has been a failure. Who looks at Sweden, several countries in Africa with very few cases of Covid (since the population regularly takes Ivermectin or HCQ due to the prevalence of sleeping sickness and other tropical diseases), a state in India of over 200 million that has drastically reduced cases with Ivermectin and areas of Mexico distributing the same drug? Cheap medicines don’t make money for the thieves at Big Pharma who are NOT controlled by the governments. Big Pharma, Big Agro and the Big Banksters are who control the governments!!!!!!!! How do you say CORPORATOCRACY in Greek?
