Greece opens vaccination platform for children 5-11 on Dec 10

The online platform for vaccination appointments for children 5-11 years old will open on December 10 and the first vaccines will be administered on December 15, said Marios Themistokleous, secretary general of Primary Health Care, Marios Themistokleous said at the weekly briefing of the National Vaccination Committee on Monday evening.

He added that vaccines against Covid-19 for children will arrive in Greece on December 13.

Last week, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved the Pfizer/ BioNTech vaccine for children aged 5-11. However, it advised that the doses administered be smaller than the ones given to other age groups. Yet as with the other age groups, the vaccine will be administered in two doses with a three-week interval

The vaccinations for children will be carried out in Primary Health structures and hospitals and gradually more vaccination centers will be added including health centers, Themistokelous stressed.

In the first phase, there will be vaccination centers in 75 areas of the country.

In Attica the vaccinations will be done in 5 vaccination points. At the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital, at the Pentelis Children’s Hospital, at the Voula Asclepieion, at the Agia Sofia Health Center in Piraeus and at the Peristeri Health Center.

The plan of the first and second installment will be implemented in the islands and in the remote areas.

Themistokleous stressed that priority is given to first installment appointments so that in a few days these appointments are scheduled.
