Greece’s authorities updated the COVID-MAP of the country with a total of 20 regional units marked “deep red” that is with the highest level. In the map end of the week, only five regions improved their level of infections and were moved to a lower lever, just “red.”
The update of the COVID_MAP comes coronavirus infections increase in the country and are expected to increase further due to holidays season with intensive social contacts and gatherings and crowding. Authorities sound alert over the increased viral load of the Omicron variant in the sewage systems of Athens and Thessaloniki.
Regions that improve the pandemic situatio: Trikala, Magnesia, Aitoloakarnania, the municiplaities of Aigina and Salamina (from deep red to red).
Region where the situation worsened: Evia (from red to deep red)
Two regions on the island of Crete, Chania and Rethymno were placed to red from orange.
