Vaccinated abroad? Greece opens platform for online registration & booster shot

Greece opened on Monday afternoon, January 10, the online platform for citizens who were administered vaccines against Covid-19 abroad. Registration to the platform will enable holders of an EU Digital COVID Certificate or of  one of a third country to have their vaccinations also registered in Greece. Especially those over 60 will avoid paying the 100-euro fine if they do not have the booster shot or no vaccination at all and be considered as unvaccinated. This measure goes into force on 16. January 2022

According to the ministerial decision published on the Official Gazette on Sunday, the platform is for citizens who have received vaccination in the 27 member states of the European Union as well as in 28  “cooperating” countries such as the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and others.

Holders of a European Digital COVID Certificate or a third country digital certificate that has acceded to the EU COVID Digital Certificate System now have the option of being registered electronically as vaccinated in the External Vaccination Register maintained by IDIKA.

The platform anagnorisi.emvolio.gov.gr is for the declaration of vaccinations that have been carried out abroad  and is both in Greek and English.

It reportedly concerns citizens who live in Greece and have completed their vaccination:

– either in a country of the European Union,

– or in a third country (or territory) that has acceded to the EU digital COVID certification system based on EU equivalence decisions.

The registration process is very simple:

1. Initially the citizen is identified using his codes in Taxisnet.

2. It then enters the AMKA (or, alternatively, its PAMKA or PAAPA), as well as its identity or passport number.

3. Then, the citizen posts on the platform his original vaccination certificate in pdf format.

4. Through the QR code of the certificate, the platform automatically checks its validity and extracts the vaccination data listed on it.

5. Immediately after the test, the vaccination dose certified by the certificate is automatically displayed on the screen and the citizen is asked to enter details of any previous doses (type of vaccine, date and country of vaccination). For example, if the certificate relates to a second vaccine dose, the details of the first dose are requested or, if it relates to a third dose (booster shot), the details of the two previous installments are requested.

6. The process is completed, the transaction receives a unique identification number and the citizen can print the registration receipt.

From the next day, the citizen can issue either a national vaccination certificate or a European digital COVID certificate for his / her vaccination. In addition, he will be able, if he wishes, to schedule an appointment for the booster shot in Greece through the platform emvolio.gov.gr.

It is noted that in order to complete the above process, the data listed on the citizen’s certificate must match the corresponding data drawn from the platform. In addition, all the criteria set by the National Vaccination Committee against coronavirus COVID-19, as applicable, must be met. Therefore, the certificate posted by the citizen on the platform must:

* To be still in force and

* To contain vaccination data, with a vaccine recognized by Greece.

In any other of the above cases, for example such as not having taxisnet codes, citizens can contact the Citizens’ Service Centers(KEP/ΚΕΠ).

Anagnorisi.emvolio.gov.gr was implemented by the Ministries of Digital Governance and Health, with the contribution of the National Network of Technology and Research Infrastructures (EDYTE SA – GRNET), a supervised body of the Ministry of Digital Government. The data of the citizens are obtained through the Interoperability Center of the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Public Administration.

It is recalled that the list of third countries (or territories) that have acceded to the EU COVID digital certification system based on EU equivalence decisions is constantly updated.

Currently the countries (or territories) number 33 and these reportedly are: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Cape Verde, El Salvador, Faroe Islands, Georgia, Israel, Iceland, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Monaco, Mavrovo New Zealand, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Panama, San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Togo, Turkey, Republic of Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uruguay.

  1. So if I read this correctly it is for permanent residents of Greece (either Greek or foreigners), not for travellers from other EU countries who spend a few months in Greece without being resident there ?

  2. A bit confusing: I have Greek and EU vaccination certificate for 1st and 2nd dose. If I get booater in UK can booster be added to Greek and EU certificate ? Anyone know the answer?
