Greece FM summons Ukrainian Ambassador over killing of one ethnic Greek, injuring of two

Greece’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to deliver a demarche requesting clarifications over the death of an ethnic Greek and the serious injury of two more members of ethnic Greeks community in an incident involving Ukrainian soldiers in the village Granitna, in Ukraine’s east near the border with Russia.

Initial information on Monday also by the Ministry in Athens claimed that two ethnic Greeks were killed and two more injured. It turned out only one of the dead was a Greek and the other an Ukrainian citizen.
Media reported later that the incident occurred when the soldiers argued with the locals over the priority to the baths.
According to an announcement by the Greek Ministry, Ukrainian Ambassador Shutenko Sergii expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, stating that there was no political or ethnic motive behind the incident. He said that two Ukrainian citizens died, one of whom was an ethnic Greek, while two were seriously injured.

Those responsible have been arrested and will be brought to justice, he added.

On Monday, Athens urged Greek nationals to immediately leave Ukraine and strongly discouraged them from traveling there.
