Two more bodies recovered from Euroferry; 3 people still missing

Two more bodies were recovered from the burnt ship ‘Euroferry Olympia’ on Friday, raising the total of confirmed dead to eight, and leaving another three people unaccounted for.

The bodies of the two men were found in the third and second car deck of the ship by a fire brigade disasters team (EMAK), state-run news agency amna reported.

Another three bodies were recovered on Thursday, and two more the days before.

A total of 281 passengers and crew have been rescued since a fire broke out on the Euroferry Olympia early on February 18, while it was traveling from Igoumenitsa, western Greece, to Brindisi, Italy.

It was carrying cars and trucks and was eventually towed from NE of Erikoussa island to Astakos on the western coast of Greece.

EMAK workers continued searching the interior of the ferry on Friday, while the ship’s main ramp will soon be lowered to remove burnt cars and trucks.
