Greece sends military equipment, humanitarian aid to Ukraine

Greece dispatches two C-130 cargo military planes filled with defense material to Ukraine, the government announced on Sunday morning. another two cargo planes are expected to leave Greece with humanitarian aid and medical supplies  also during the day.

The C-130s took off from the military airport of Elefsina around 11 a.m. for Ukraine’s neighboring Poland.
According to ANT1 TV and other media, Greece is sending ammunition, Kalashnikov rifles and anti-tank weapons.
The decision for the delivery of defense material was taken by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos at an emergency meeting on Sunday morning and following request by the Ukrainian government.
Secretary General to the PM announced the decision saying it was reached after consultation with the NATO allies and the EU partners.

A total of 26 countries incl Germany, Canada and UK are sending military equipment to Ukraine to defend itself against Russia.
The humanitarian aid (blankets and food) and the medical supplies will be sent also on Sunday and will be accompanied by Deputy Defense Minister Nikos Hardalias, former head of the Greek Civil Protection.
Meanwhile in Athens, the Russian Ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry after the killing of ten ethnic Greeks around Mariupol on Saturday.
