Greece: Coronavirus cases and deaths on the rise; geographic distribution

Greece’s health authorities announced on Monday 22,694 coronavirus cases and 73 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients has increased to 364.

Note that tests in last 24 hours were several thousands fewer than during the working days due to the weekend.

Positivity rate rose to over 21%.

A Greek health expert and member of the epidemiologists’ committee advising the government said earlier on Monday, there are two reasons for the infections increase: the relaxation of protective measures and the prevalence of the Omicron 2 (Ba2) variant. More details here.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 2,658,296 infections (daily change: +0.9%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 219 infections are related to travel from abroad and 1,383 to other confirmed cases.

Rolling average 20,180 from 13,632 last week.

70 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours and 3 more deaths from previous days incorporated in today’s data brought the total of pandemic victims to 26,635. Of these, 95.2% had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or over.

364 patients are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 68 years and 90.4% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or over.

Of the total in ventilation, 244 (67.03%) are unvaccinated or partly vaccinated and 120 (32.97%) are fully vaccinated.

4,357 have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

242 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: -17.41%). The average daily admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 284.

The median age of new infections is 36 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 79 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).

Of the 2w,694 new coronavirus infections, 37 were detected at entry points and 11 among travelers already in the country.
