Body of child recovered from the central Aegean Sea

The body of a child was found floating in the sea area off the island of Heraklia, Small Cyclades, in the central Aegean Sea on early Friday afternoon. The body was wearing only a white blouse and it is estimated to belong to a child aged between 12 and 15.

The body was located by a sailing boat in the bay of Alimia.

Immediately the port Authority of nearby Naxos was informed and set on alert.  A private boat with with a rescuer from the ambulance service rushed to the spot, reported cyclades 24.gr.

The body was recovered and transported to the Health Center of the island.

Due to the advanced composition not even the sex of the child could be identified, state broadcaster ERT reported.

The body is been transferred to the morgue of Piraeus on Saturday, where an autopsy is to determine the causes of the child’s death.

The Naxos Port Authority carries out a preliminary investigation.

According to first suggestions the child may have been among those who went missing when two boats carrying migrants sank off the islands of Paros and Folegandros  around the Christmas time.
