Greece’s Shipping Ministry has issued a “strong recommendation” to Greek shipping companies to avoid waters under Iran’s jurisdiction, ministry sources said on Monday.
This recommendation should be taken into account when sailing in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, the sources reportedly added.
17 Greek-owned ships were currently in the Persian Gulf, media reported on Sunday.
One of the two Greek tankers that were seized on Friday by Iranian naval forces, the “Prudent Warrior”, is anchored at Bandar Abbas port in Iran, while the “Delta Poseidon” was still in the Persian Gulf.
The sources said they suspect that the oil cargo of Prudence Warrior is to be reloaded by the Iranian authorities.
Iran claims to want compensation for the oil that was reloaded by US order while the tanker Lana – formerly Pegas – was in Greek waters.
Two Greeks in the 25-strong crew are onboard ‘Delta Poseidon’, while 8 Greeks and one Cypriot are onboard ‘Prudent Warrior’, which has a crew of 23.
All crew members on both ships are in good health, the sources noted.
