Greece Civil Aviation: “Mask recommendation” for flight passengers

Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority CAA issued a statement saying that the use of mask in air travel is “optional” and not “mandatory” from 1. June 2022.

CAA Announcement

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announces to the passenger public that, as of today, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, the health restriction Covid-19, which provided for the mandatory use of a protective mask for domestic and international flights, has been lifted, but the recommendation for its use remains where necessary by passengers and especially those belonging to vulnerable groups.

In particular, from now on all domestic and international air travel (arrivals / departures), there is only a recommendation for the optional use of a protective mask for passengers and employees at arrivals and departures within airports, as well as during air flights.

Tips to avoid overcrowding
In order to avoid congestion in air travel, passengers are required to comply with the instructions of police authorities, permanent and temporary staff of airports or airlines responsible for the tasks of supervision, crowd management and passenger assistance, in order to secure that passengers embark, disembark and wait in safety.

The CAA announcement comes the day Greece lifted the use of masks in- and outdoors June 1 – September 15, 2022, however, with exceptions.

Use of mask still after June 1: general exceptions here ; masks on ferries and other ships here.
