A just 10-year-old boy was arrested for staring forest fires on the island of Lesvos. The underage arsonist told police that he was starting fires because he liked to watch firefighters putting them out.
The boy admitted responsibility for two recent fires in small forests in the area of Agia Kyriaki, in the outskirts of the town of Mytilene.
The fires were set in the two previous days and were extinguished quickly due to quick response by the Fire Service.
When police asked him why he was setting fires, the little boy answered “because I like to hear the sirens and see the firefighters putting them out,” several media reported.
According to state broadcaster ERT, there have been a total of 5 to 6 fires in the area this summer, but the boy confessed to only two.
A case has been filed against the 10-year-old arsonist, while the Juvenile Prosecutor has taken over the case.
Also the boy’s mother was detained for neglecting the supervision of a minor.
