The atmospheric “cold lake” that brought rain and storms in the largest part of Greece this week is expected to significantly subside on Friday as it moves away from Greece toward the region of the Black Sea.
However, according to an updated forecast by the National Observatory of Athens weather service, meteo.gr, the weather will remain unstable and rainy, even though temperature will increase above seasonal levels next week.
Friday, August 26: Marked Orange are areas with significant rainfall, marked Yellow are areas with possibility of hail.
Main features of the weather on Friday will be:
– scattered showers both in mainland Greece and in the islands
– phenomena that may be intense in parts of the eastern Aegean, western Macedonia, Epirus and probably in northern Thessaly
– storms in parts of western Macedonia, Epirus and probably northern Thessaly and western Central Greece may be accompanied by hail of small size.
– showers or thunderstorms are expected to hit Attica region.
The expected rain is of category 2 according to the Regional Precipitation Index-RPI that has been developed and operationally implemented by meteo.gr.
