Repairs of the sabotaged underwater pipeline which supplies the island of Aegina with drinking water from the mainland have been successful completed.
The pipeline was damaged in July by the use of an incendiary device, with the contractor sending an ROV to assess the damage, and the Hellenic Coast Guard carrying out investigations.
KTG report on the sabotage here.
However, the pipeline’s operation at the popular Saronic Gulf island continued uninterrupted throughout repairs.
Attica Region Governor Giorgos Patoulis noted on Wednesday that “the Attica Region’s services and executives are constantly alert and ready to deal with acts of sabotage, which we hope to avoid and we condemn.”
To demonstrate the successful repair Patoulis drank a glass of water coming out from the refurbished pipeline.
