The conservative Greek prime Minister and opposition parties congratulated the Brazilian president-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for his victory on Sunday.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis congratulated Lula saying in a tweet on Monday that Brazil has a “vital role to play” in dealing with major global challenges including climate protection.

*Note: Lula lost a finger at the age of 19 while he was working at a car factory.
Leader of socialist PASOK Nikos Androulakis also welcomed Lula’s victory calling it a win for democracy and climate protection.
In a tweet in Greek, Androulakis said Lula’s victory was “a sign of hope for the people of Brazil. Of hope for respect for democratic institutions, the rule of law, as well as for more social justice.”

“The defeat of Bolsonaro and the Trump philosophy paves the way for better and honest cooperation with the European Union on global challenges, tackling climate change and especially protecting the global lungs of the Amazon forest,” he added in a second tweet.
77-year-old left-wing Lula, a former president, won 50.9% of the votes to beat far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro.
A stunning comeback for Lula and the end of Brazil’s most right-wing government in decades.
Lula won 50.9% of votes compared with 49.1% for Bolsonaro, the Supreme Electoral Court said, declaring Lula, previously a two-term president, the winner.
