A prosecutor in Athens charged a 14-year-old boy with homicide with probable intent, possession and use of weapons after he confessed to the shooting and killing his 17-year-old brother on Thursday evening.
The body of the 17-year-old boy was found by cyclists in an abandoned industrial area of Mandra, west Attica, early Thursday evening.

According to media information, police found two cartridges from hunting rifle next to the body while the victim had a bullet wound on the back of his neck.
The two brothers had gone in the area to collect the sheep of the family business.

The younger brother had fled the scene and was sought by police.
The 14-year-old has claimed the death was an accident that occurred while hunting for wild boar.
After testifying before a prosecutor he was led before an investigative magistrate for minors.

Meanwhile, the boys’ father, who was also detained by police on Friday, was released pending an investigation into possible child neglect and possession of firearms.

According to media, the forensic examiner has found signs of abuse on the victim’s body.
A child welfare charity has told media that it had received two anonymous complaints in the last two years about the family for child abuse by the father and for children neglect by both parents.
The family has a total of 9 children and according to complaints the children did not attend school in 2022.
The charity added it had informed the prosecutor’s office for the complaints.
Authorities have now reportedly asked for the forensic examiner to examine also the other 8 children of the family for signs of abuse.
A full autopsy on the victims will shed more light into the case.
PS where were the teachers and social workers when the children failed school? how did prosecuting authorities respond to the complaints? where is the welfare state and social services to protect children and to assist a family in need?
