Cypriot arrested for stealing stones and marbles from the Acropolis

A Cypriot national has been arrested while he was trying to steal stones and pieces of marbles from the Acropolis of Athens.

The 26-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, March 5.

It was a guard who saw the man in action and informed the police that a man was trying to remove stones and marbles from the Acropolis.

Police officers arrived at the scene and identified the man. During the inspection they found 33 stones and 3 pieces of marble.

The man was arrested and prosecuted for violating antiquities legislation, as well as for weapons possession, as a knife was also found on him.

The man was taken to the competent Prosecutor, with the case filed against him by the Security Directorate of Athens.
