Hasheya, the abandoned white tiger cub, has gone over the rainbow bridge. She was euthanized on Monday morning, the Attica Zoological Park announced.
5-month-old tiger cub named Hasheya was suffering from a genetic bones disease, her health condition was incurable and irreversible, causing the animal more suffering with no perspective for quality life.
“Following the final order of the authorities, in the presence of veterinarians from the Eastern Attica Region, little Hasheya left today painlessly, in the place where she lived all this time and among the people who cared for her, loved her and became very attached to her during these 6 weeks,” the Attica Park said in a statement on Facebook.
The animal was then transferred to the pathological anatomy laboratory of the Veterinary School of the University of Thessaly”, the Park added.
The white tiger cub was was abandoned under a garbage bin near the Park on February 28,2023. The cub was paralyzed from the waist downward.
She is believed to have been a victim of illegal wildlife trade and somebody abandoned her unable to deal with her health condition.
From the first moment, all tests and screening showed that the animal was suffering from a bone disease that was causing her multiple fractures and in consequence pain during the breathing.
She remained in the care and possible treatment in the Park facilities and under immense pressure from the society and animal welfare groups, all results The results from blood and screening tests were “immediately sent to the competent authorities and then to specialized centers in Europe, America and Africa (AAP, Born Free, Panthera Africa, The Wildcat Sanctuary, 4Paws)”, the Park noted.
“The purpose of the contacts with the aforementioned centers (while sending all the tests) was to investigate the possibility of transferring the animal to one of them for further management and care. The responses received from these centers ruled out this possibility,” the Park added.
Euthanasia of Hasheya was inevitable and was announced it would happen last week.
“Unfortunately, her serious incurable and painful genetic problems, incompatible with an elementary quality life and the rules of well-being, led both the Greek veterinarians who were members of the committee, as well as the foreign experts, to unanimously recommend to the competent authorities that euthanasia was the only selection, as often happens in cases where an animal is suffering without hope of improvement.”
Following the news of the cub’s euthanasia on Monday, the Greek Animal Welfare and Environment organization urged Greek authorities and the government to take all steps to identify and locate those who abandoned the tiger cub and illegally traded her. Furthermore, the organization demands from the state to take effective measures against illegal wildlife trading.

The people who are involved in this disgusting trade should not be jailed if caught they should instead be left at the mercy of nature on a deserted island somewhere
Poor innocent little Angel. I am so dreadfully sad and outraged att what has happened to this magnificent animal and I hope the evil monsters who hurt and abandoned his beautiful creature, suffer the severest pain and heartache for the rest of their miserable lives, Rest in peace now little Angel with no more pain and suffering, you were simply too good for this horrible earth overrun with horrible humans.
