Shipping companies announce ferry ticket discounts

Greece’s coastal shipping companies on Thursday began offering ticket discounts of up to 50% on passenger ferries departing from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, Thessaloniki and Kavala.

The shipping companies responded swiftly after a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis where they were asked to cut transport costs for the average Greek family to facilitate them summer vacations.

Attica Group that owns Blue Star Frries and Hellenic Seaways announced ticket discounts of around 20% for a family of up to five with a car, for all destinations to and from Piraeus, and raised the discount on social tourism tickets from 25% to 50%.

SeaJets also announced additional discounts, after cutting ticket prices by up to 19% in May. It offered a discount of up to 30% for families of four with a car and a 20% discount for people living in Aegean islands, while for permanent residents of the Dodecanese a 40% discount is on the line Sitia – Dodecanese.. Discounts are valid for ticketing from 18 July and for travel up to and including 18 September.

The company announced also that it currently examines with the relevant ministries the granting of a 15% discount to the beneficiaries of the Market Pass. The offer will be activated within 5 business days from the date it has a working interface with the Market Pass registry system.

Golden Star Ferries announced a 20% discount for all tickets for the period July 17- September 10, every Tuesday, on individual tickets (economy & distinguished class as well as airplane type seat), in cars and two-wheelers.

Fast Ferries is offering discounts on passenger ferry tickets, wanting to contribute to the increase in traffic to the islands it serves with its itineraries. The company states in its announcement that it is establishing a “discount freight day.””.

From 19/7/2023 until 6/9/2023 every Wednesday Fast Ferries will offer a discounted fare reduced by 20% on all its routes from Rafina to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Naxos as well as on the return routes to Rafina .

The discount is valid on all routes from/to Rafina, for all passenger seats, as well as on IX tickets for passenger vehicles and motorcycles.

  1. I live on an island and I think residents should get a discount from the huge increase in ticket prices since we need to go to the mainland quite often for rasons other than having fun on a holiday!

    • I’m a tourist and I totally agree with you, Jeramy! The islands populations should have lower prices, you need to be able to go to the mainland for several reasons, medic care for one…. And, if the ferry companies can lower the prices on such short notice then they must have been set too high in the first place!
