Extreme Risk of Fires for six Greek regions on July 26 (MAP)

Greece’s Civil Protection issued an ALERT warning of Extreme Fires Risk (category 5) for six regions across the country on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. At the same time, the Fires Risks WARNING lists another six regions at Very High Risk (category 4).

Regions marked Yellow are regions with “High risk” of fires.

At Extreme Risk of Fires are:

  • the region of Attica
  • the region of Central Greece (especially Viotia, Evia, Fthiotida, Fokida),
  • the Peloponnese (Corinthia, Argolida),
  • the region of Western Greece (particularly Achaia),
  • the region of Thessaly (Larissa, Magnisia)
  • the region of central Macedonia,

Additionally, there is a very high risk of fire (category 4) for another 6 regions:

-the region of Crete
-the region of Thessaly (Karditsa, Trikala)
-the region of the Peloponnese (Arkadia, Lakonia and Messinia)
-the region of the Ionian islands
-the region of western Greece (Etoloakarnania, Ilia)
-the region of central Macedonia (Pieria, Imathia, Pella, Kilkis, Serres, Chalkidiki and Mount Athos)

The civil Protection ad Climate Change Ministry advises people to be exceptionally careful and avoid any activity in the open that could accidentally cause a fire, such as burning vegetation, using machinery that creates sparks, lighting barbecues, or throwing away lit cigarettes.

It also reminds the public to alert the fire brigade via the emergency number 199 in the case of fire.
