A case of sexual exploitation of a minor who lives in Rethymno, Crete, has been revealed after a now 15-year-old girl gave birth to a child in the local hospital.
The girl from Bulgaria was at the city hospital accompanied by her mother, where she gave birth to a baby girl five days ago.
The girl was reportedly unaware that she was pregnant until a month ago.
The doctors immediately informed the authorities mainly because of the very young age of the girl and because no father was declared.
According to data from the preliminary investigation ordered by the prosecutor, it was found out that in the years 2022 and 2023 a 48-year-old man from Romania and a 44-year-old also from the same country had sexual intercourse with the minor several times.
There are strong indications that the girl was also sexually abused by her 56-year-old stepfather, local media reported.
The girl has been removed from her home and is hosted by a child protection NGO.
The newborn baby remains in the hospital until the social services take care of her.
The two men and the girl’s stepfather have been arrested on charges of sexual abuse and are expected to b brought to prosecutor on Friday.
