Greece’s public sector union ADEDY has called for a 24-hour strike to tak eplace tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
In its call to the strike, ADEDY demands, among others, a horizontal increase of employees’ salaries by 10%, collective labor agreements, abolition of the salary freeze and of the 2% unemployment levy, increase of ‘unhealthy work’ allowance and of tax-free income to rise to 12,000 euros.
In addition, the union demands that all critical public institutions (health, education, social services, social security funds etc.) should be immediately staffed with permanent employees and all necessary infrastructures should be upgraded.,
“We continue the fight with a new 24-hour All-Employee strike mobilization on May 21 against the high prices and the economic impoverishment of workers by the government’s policy, and calls on all public employees to take massive part on the strike,” ADEDY underlined.
A protest gathering is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, outside the Finance Ministry in downtown Athens, close to Syntagma square.
Public Transport
In an unusual move, there have been no announcements for strikes or work stoppages by public transport workers, so far (Monday afternoon)
Based on this, public transport is expected to operate as usually.
