Greece’s Miltiadis “Miltos” Tentoglou won the gold medal in the men’s long jump final at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Saint-Denis, with a jump of 8.48 meters on Tuesday.
He jumped 8.48 m in his second trial out of six in total.
The 26-year-old athlete won also for Greece the first gold medal at the 33rd Olympic Games and the seventh overall – 1 silver and 5 bronze-.

Yet he appeared not as satisfied as he should. “I am content but I was expecting something more,” he told state broadcaster ERT adding that “every field and conditions are different.”
He thanked all Greeks for their support and the messages they sent him in the last hours before the competition.
In his hometown Grevena in north-western Greece people gathered in the central square to watch the live-streaming and send him ‘good vibes’ for tonight’s efforts.
Jamaican Wayne Pinnock won silver and Italy’s Mattia Furlani bronze in the Men’s Long Jump in Paris on Tuesday.
Tentoglou was a gold medalist also at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
Media report of the short conversation Tentogloy had with his trainer after the victory. “I wasn’t good,” Tentoglou reportedly said and trainer Pomaski replied “Never mind, we got it again!”

Tentoglou is the 14th longest jumper of all time, having won the first place in all major World and European championships, with a total of 11 gold medals.
