A 69-year-old animal breeder was shot multiple times and a part of his tongue was cut with scissors in a brutal attack in the village of Viladendro by Rethumno on the island of Crete early Friday morning.
According to local media, the victim was attacked by at least one person wearing a hood in the barn while he was checkering his animals.
The assailant who remains unknown so far, was waiting for the breeder and shot at him six times in the legs and hands the moment the victim entered the livestock facility.
Despite his severe injuries, the farmer managed to call his son, who arrived at the scene and took him to the General Hospital of Rethymno.
He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit and is fighting for his life in very critical condition.
The police are investigating the attack and are searching for the perpetrators.
Speaking to media, the victim’s son said that the assailants did not wear masks or hoods and that their identification is a matter of time due to CCTV cameras in the facility, local cretapost.gr noted.
The victim is the father of a young man who was attacked with corrosive liquid in July in the Koumperi area of Rethymno. Authorities are investigating a potential link between the two incidents.
The Rethymno Security Department is investigating whether the attempted murder in the early hours of Friday can be connected to the attack of the breeder’s son or whether something else is hidden behind this incredibly horrible incident.
It is also under investigation whether the hooded man who shot and cut the tongue of the 69-year-old breeder is the main perpetrator, that is, if he had personal differences with the victim, or if he was a bogeyman and he acted on behalf of third parties who are also the moral perpetrators.
