The pilot phase of the Digital Work Card will begin on Wednesday in the tourism and food service sectors. According to a statement from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the measure will be fully implemented by March 1, 2025, allowing businesses in these sectors sufficient time to adjust to the new requirements and address any potential practical issues.
Labor and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus announced that during the interim period leading up to full implementation, webinars will be conducted across various locations in Greece.
The Digital Work Card aims to ensure the full protection of workers’ rights by monitoring real-time working hours and ensuring proper compensation.
The measure is already successfully in place for approximately 750,000 employees in banks, large supermarkets, insurance companies, security firms, and public utilities, involving around 73,000 businesses.
Once extended to the food service and tourism sectors, it is estimated that the total number of employees covered by the Digital Work Card will reach approximately 1,500,000.
