The Grande Dame of the Greek music, Marinella, suffered a brain stroke while performing on the stage of Herodion Ancient Theater in downtown Athens on Wednesday night. She has been in the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital also on Thursday, with the next 48 hours to be critical for the course of her health.
According to hospital announcements, Marinella suffered a brain stroke with heavy bleeding.
The 86-year-old singer was filmed on stage struggling a bit with the lyrics of a song, the third song in a row, with a trembling voice and unbalanced, when she collapsed on stage and fell on the floor.
Marinella’s collapse shocked her family who was present in the performance, her coworkers and the audience.

A private ambulance was immediately called, however, it arrived 45 minutes later, as the audience that was leaving the theater was causing a traffic jam, media reported.
She had started her concert on Wednesday night singing a cappella, filling the theater with her crystal clear voice. People backstage realized that she was faltering in the second song. In the third song things became clearer, with the audience realizing that there was a problem.
In its latest update on Marinella’s health condition on Thursday evening, the hospital said that she would not need intubation, that she opened her eyes and has contact with the environment.
Her colleagues and fans eagerly anticipate for each update from the hospital hoping for a quick recovery.
