Α 14-year-olf boy was arrested after he threatened to “smash” the face of a teacher. The incident took place in a school in Alimos, suburb of southern Athens, on Wednesday.
The teacher had summoned the boy to the principal’s office after she caught him using a mobile phone in the school yard. Use of mobile phones has been banned in schools since the start of the school year in early September.
When she asked him why he was using the cell phone the boy told her “I;m going to break your face.”
Following his threats and the teacher’s remarks, the schoolboy reportedly broke a picture frame in the principal’s office.
A lawsuit has been filed, police arrested both the pupil and his father.
Speaking to Mega TV Live News, the father downplayed the incident saying the boy got angry and “OK, a frame was broken, too,” implying that there was no big deal.
Violence and delinquent behavior among school children has gone out of control recently with authorities and parents watching the events helplessly. KTG reported here on September 25.
In several cases, parents have defended their children behavior downplaying the events.
But solution came from Minister for Citizens’ Protection, Michalis Chrysohoidis, on Thursday. He announced “tougher punishment for both minors ad well as for parents.”
In an interview with Skai TV, he said there was a rise of minors’ violence by 50% and added that “9,000 minors have been arrested since the start of the year.”
The father should be jailed and then sent for parenting training for a year. The boy should be sentenced to community service for a year also. The father should pay for the cost of his imprisonment and for parenting training. Simple.
I am sure that many agree with you but are too frightened to speak out against “Children” who have been elevated to the top of society. !
