Greek citizen among the dead of terror attack in Jaffa, Tel Aviv

A young Greek citizen is among the victims of a terror attack in Jaffa, Tel Aviv, on Tuesday evening, Greece’s Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday morning.

The 26-year-old Greek with origins from Thessaloniki was a resident of Jerusalem and the son of a renowned doctor there.

According to Greek media, the victim was Ionas Karousis, a student in Tel Aviv, with double, Greek and Israeli citizenship.He had returned to Israel a few days ago, after vacations in Thessaloniki.

His father, Dimitris Karousis, a neurologist, had migrated from Thessaloniki to Jerusalem in 1988 and was the first non-Jewish doctor at the Medical School there.

 

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states in its announcement, “We unequivocally condemn yesterday’s terrorist attack in the Jaffa area of ​​Tel Aviv,” the Foreign Ministry said in its announcement, expressing its condolences to the family and relatives of the victim.

Seven people were killed and sixteen were wounded in the attack at a light rail station in a shooting and stabbing terror attack in Jaffa on Tuesday evening.

Two terrorists, one of whom was armed with a rifle and the other with a knife, attacked civilians on the Tel Aviv light rail before getting off and continuing on foot and shooting and stabbing people on Jerusalem Street in the city. they were both killed by Israeli police.

The terror attack — one of the deadliest single attacks in Israel in recent years — came amid heightened tensions in Israel as the Israel Defense Forces announced a ground incursion into Lebanon in a bid to push the Hezbollah terror group away from the border and just minutes before Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israel, the timesofisrael reported.
