Cats killer of Volos arrested: The young “man next door”

The Cats Killer who stabbed to death stray animals, mostly cats and kittens,  in the city of Volos, central Greece, has been arrested by police, charged for six felonies and a fine of 100,000 euros.

The 31-year-old man was arrested by police on Wednesday evening after he was identified from security cameras. He as a criminal record for drug possession and other crimes such as exhibition.

Officers from the Police and the Security Sub-Directorate had waited for him outside his home and handcuffed him when he arrived.

They took him to police station where he spent the night and to prosecutor on Thursday. A case file against him was filed for violating the legislation on the welfare of companion animals, police said in a statement adding that another file was filed for violation of the drug and weapon law.

He was wearing the same clothes he did when he stabbed to death a kitten on September 30. –KTG reported here on Wednesday – He was carrying a bag with 2.16 gr of raw cannabis and two knives.

Police has evidence that he killed that specific kitten, one dog on September 25, while he killed 4 more cats and injured another 3 with a sharp object in the whole month of September.

An administrative fine of 100,000 euros was imposed to the man.

According to local media, he refused to speak to prosecutor and remained silent all the time.

With the felony charges he maybe taken in custody pending trial, while a long imprisonment is not to be excluded, legal experts said.

The arrested perpetrator was the “quiet man next door” who was working as a waiter in a restaurant, neighbors and friends told media.

 

A friend of his said she could not believe that he did all these killings, “he was quiet and he would some time do dog sitting to my own dog.” He had posted a picture with her dog on his social media account.

He appears to have a tough childhood and once he was kicked out of the family home by his parents.

He is considered to be a drug addict and was once hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic for two weeks.

Residents of Volos insist that there more cases of cats and kittens stabbing estimate them to ten or eleven.

The man had granted time until next Tuesday to testify to prosecutor.

  1. Just as well anybody who has been thrown out of their home doesn’t go slaughtering cats and dogs, the streets would be littered with corpses.

    These fantastic fines imposed needless to say he will never pay it..Who could.? He is free to disappear and probably will. It’s just lip service to animal welfare !!
