“Make Greece Great Again”: Local Trumpistas in action

Donald Trump’s campaign of hate, racism, homophobia, anti-science, propaganda and religious fundamentalism was crowned with complete success and had several local “trumpistas” in the east Mediterranean Sea and the south Balkan cheer.

A number of Greek politicians and ruling party New Democracy posted their thrill on social media and welcome Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.

Panos Kammenos, the former leader of nationalist Independent Greeks, a coalition government party with left-wing SYRIZA (2015-2019) tweeted “Make Greece great again,” in a clear reference to Trump’s election slogan.

In the final days of the US election campaign, Kammenos, who served as defense minister under Alexis Tsipras, appealed to Greek Americans to back the Republican candidate.

“With absolute responsibility and knowledge of the past, I call on the entire Greek community in the USA to support the candidacy of President Donald Trump. It is in the interest of Hellenism, of the end to war-like involvement in our region and of our homeland,” he tweeted on October 23.

Kyriakos Velopoulos, whose nationalist Greek Solution holds 11 seats in the 300-member parliament, said his party was alone in backing Trump in Greece.

“Patriotism defeated globalism and ethnocentrism with patriotism came to the planet”. Copying Trump’s rhetoric, Velopoulos commented further in his speech at the Parlaiment earlier on Wednesday that “the Greek Solution is the party of hope, of the poor, that will make the Greeks proud again.” He called on the “healthy, patriotic forces to ally against New Democracy and finish the woke agenda.”

“What happens now that all the systemic parties [New Democracy], PASOK and SYRIZA put all their money on Kamala but Trump won? Only Greek Solution was for Trump and for peace in Greece! That’s why we have told you that they are irrelevant and dangerous for the country!” Velopoulos tweeted.

Dimitris Natsios, leader of religious-orthodox Niki spoke about “a day of hope” that arose after the election of Trump, arguing that “in the USA the country, the family and prudence won and defeated were paranoia, political correctness, the woke agenda, abortions, the theories of the two sexes and the belligerent hawks of war.” According to Natsios, the government and personally the prime minister represent in Greece what was defeated in America.

Enthusiastic about by Trump’s return to the White House was Afroditi Latinopoulou, who holds a seat in the European Parliament for her far-right party Voice of Reason.

“They tried to assassinate him politically. They tried to actually assassinate him. They tried to silence him. But the light of reason defeated the darkness of paranoia of the woke agenda, of illegal immigration and of benefits. Congratulations, @realDonaldTrump,” she tweeted.

Also some ruling ND MP such as former Health Minister and now ND Parliamentary group president Thanos Plevris xpressed his thrill about trump’s victory going beyond the official policies of the conservative ruling party and mentioning also the woke agenda.

“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump for his great victory. The citizens in the USA voted among other things based on the economy and against illegal immigration as well as the woke agenda. The message is important for the EU. As Greece, we have laid the foundations for a good cooperation,” he tweeted.

In the same wave length posted also ND MP Notis Mitarakis, former Migration Minister noting “the elections result “was certainly a reaction to the aggresive woke culture and the illegal migration.”

PS I’m very much afraid that this Trump wave is going to spread across Greece. The seeds have been already here in the last couple of years.

  1. “hate, racism, homophobia, anti-science, propaganda and religious fundamentalism”? I’m very much afraid, KTG, that you have no idea of what has really been going on in the United States.

  2. Pfff…this place seems to be a democ-RAT’s hole. Too much CNN is bad for your mental health.

  3. Fascists everywhere are celebrating.. and actively pushing for a Fourth Reich for Europe and the entire western world. Ironically, some of the loudest supporters of modern fascism are to be found in Israel — not least their current prime minister, who (like Trump) is liable for multiple criminal prosecutions and possible imprisonment the moment he loses power.

The world is being run by criminals, neo-Nazis and billionaires (most of whom also fit the previous two categories). It is like a re-run of the 1930s…

    Why are you afraid ?

  6. I can post the video link (but I don’t think you allow links) – this was Kamala Harris speaking when she was a Prosecutor:

“I learned that with the swipe of my pen, I could charge someone with the lowest level offense, that person could be arrested, lose their job, lose standing in their community,” she says in one clip. “Weeks later I could dismiss the charges, but their lives would forever be changed.”
