A police officer serving in the Parliament’s security division has been arrested following allegations of domestic violence and the sexual abuse of his four children, brought forward by his wife, who is also a police officer.
According to Parliament Speaker Konstantinos Tasoulas, the complaint was filed on November 18 with the domestic violence unit of the Greek Police (ELAS). Tasoulas informed parliamentary correspondents that the officer was immediately removed from the parliamentary security service the next day.
The accused officer was referred to a summary court on November 20 and received a one-year suspended prison sentence. Following the allegations, he reportedly told his mother he intended to take his own life, prompting police intervention. He was subsequently admitted to the Armed Forces Mental Health Center for evaluation.
The officer’s wife, who works in a separate department in Athens, has since lodged additional allegations, accusing him of sexually abusing their four children. These serious claims have initiated a new preliminary investigation and resulted in both parents losing custody of the children due to mutual accusations between the spouses.
It was revealed that the officer, who had been part of the Parliament’s security division since early 2019, did not carry a weapon because of psychological issues he had previously reported.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, the officer’s wife is reportedly pregnant with their fifth child.
Authorities are continuing their investigation.
