Two men died on the island of Lemnos in northern Aegean Sea and residents in several regions including Attica and Rhodes received warning messages <112> of intense weather phenomena and flood as storm weather BORA is sweeping across the country.
Lemnos
A 57-year-old farmer was found dead by firefighters in the area of Kontias on Lemnos, after his family reported him missing following Saturday morning’s severe weather on the island.
The man had gone missing near the Kontias dam, which was flooded. He was reportedly drowned after being swept away by rushing waters while he was trying to free his car, which had become stuck in the mud within a stream.
A few hours later, an 70-year-old man was found dead in the flooded yard of his home also in Kontias. He was cleaning the stairs and most probably he fell due to the slippery mud sustaining a fatal head injury.
He was transported to Myrina Hospital, where doctors could only confirm his death.
The island was severely hit by the BORA on Saturday morning when an alert <112> message was sent to residents warning them and urging them to avoid unnecessary travel.
“The whole island is flooded, we have land- and rock-slides,” the mayor to state broadcaster ERT in the evening.
The village Kontias was ordered to evacuate on Saturday evening due to flooded dam nearby. ERT reported that locals from other villages rushed to Kontias to help elderly parents, grandparents and other people in need without their own transportation means.
Rhodes
Also the island of Rhodes was hit by heavy rainfall that caused significant disruptions, particularly in the villages of Pastida, Kremasti, Ialyssos, and Maritsa.
Flooded roads have immobilized over 20 vehicles, prompting civil protection authorities to advise against any travel until weather conditions improve.
Local newspaper rodiaki.gr reported of at least 20 motorists trapped in the cars as roads turned into rivers and rivers and streams over-flooded.
Firefighters and civil protection teams are struggling to help the trapped people.
The main volume of water fell in the northern and western part of Rhodes.
Short after 10 p.m. a new <112> message urged residents of Ialyssos to move away from basements and ground floors to higher areas due to flooding phenomena.

A 112 emergency alert was sent on Saturday afternoon to residents of Attica, central Macedonia and Thessaly in central Greece. The message warned them of severe weather conditions brought by storm Bora, which has been affecting Greece since morning.
The alert warns of locally intense storms in Attica from late Saturday night until Sunday morning. Residents are advised to exercise caution during travel and follow instructions from authorities.
Storm BORA
Coming form the West, storm weather BORA has been sweeping across the country with heavy rainfalls, snow and gusty southern winds.
A tourist bus carrying 35 people from Giannitsa to Kastoria, northern Greece, was stuck in the snow after a visit to a monastery in Kleisoura. The bus had neither winter tires nor snow chains. It reportedly needed an operation by the fire service and the police to evacuate the people and bring them to safety in nearby taverns.

The National Meteorological Service EMY issued a red alert warning on Friday about the intense phenomena of storm weather BORA – More details HERE on KTG.
