An explosion at the entrance of an apartment building early on Wednesday morning in Varkiza, a seaside suburb of Athens, has alerted authorities New Democracy MEP, Eliza Vozemberg, has a summer apartment there.
A makeshift incendiary device detonated at the entrance of the building and started a fire.
According to reports, the device consisted of gas canisters, flammable materials, and a firecracker to trigger the blast. A second device that had not detonate was also found there.
The building in question is reportedly owned by Eliza Vozemberg, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Greece’s ruling New Democracy party. While Vozemberg does not use the property as her primary residence, sources suggest she may have been the intended target, daily tovima reported.
Commenting on the incident, Vozemberg told Action24 TV: “They threw gas canisters at my vacation home. I have received threats because I have exposed the political exploitation of the Tempi train tragedy. I am not afraid.”
The explosion caused minor damage to the building’s entrance but no injuries. Authorities have collected remnants of the device from the scene, and security services have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
