A shocking crime took place in Pangrati district of Athens on Thursday, when a middle-aged man killed his elderly mother inside their home.
According to initial information, the 56-year-old son hit his 94-year-old mother with a crowbar. The woman has been estimated to have died at 6 o’ clock in the morning.
Paramedics and police officers rushed to the crime scene after they received a phone call, most probably by the perpetrator.
The son had locked himself in another room of the apartment, when officers arrived.
Ultimately he was arrested and taken to police station for a testimony.
According to media, he told police that he hit his mother in order to get rid of the “demons” inside her head and he killed her “to save her from any harm.”
He appears to have been suffering from mental issues and is not so far known, whether he was in prescription therapy or had been hospitalized in a facility in the past.
The victim had two sons and a daughter who was living in the apartment next door.
Speaking to reporters, neighbors said that it was a quiet family and they never witnessed any quarrels or any signs of aggression.
