Meteorologists in Greece forecast a “suffocating” cocktail of Sahara dust and high temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius until the end of the week.
The hottest days are Tuesday and Wednesday, May 6 and 7, 2025.

According to the meteo service of the National Observatory of Athens high temperatures and increased concentrations of Sahara dust in the atmosphere are expected at least until Friday, May 9.
The atmospheric circulation that will prevail in the Eastern Mediterranean will result in the transport of warm air masses, rich in Saharan dust, to Greece. Atmospheric instability will be limited and will bring local rainfalls mainly in the central and northern regions on Monday and Tuesday. May 5-6.
Map 1 shows indicatively the concentration of dust in the atmosphere near the ground as well as the wind, on the morning of Wednesday, May 7.
Map 2 shows the deviation of the temperature at a height of approximately 1500 meters from the average value, according to data for the period 1979-2010. These warm air masses will be up to 8-10 °C warmer than the average value.

Temperature
Temperatures are expected to exceed 32 degrees Celsius and reach even 35°C mainly in the eastern and southern mainland but also in Crete, according to meteorologist Christina Rigou of Mega TV.
The meteo service forecasts even 39 degrees Celsius in eastern Crete on Saturday, May 10.
