Tragedy in Lefkada: A 30-year-old man was drowned in Kathisma beach on Sunday. The young man was visiting the island with friends and he was planning to get married in mid-June.
Sunday afternoon, the young man tried to go for a swim in Kathisma beach, despite the big waves and the strong wind prevailing in the area.
The man went into the water and he was quickly swept away by the waves that reportedly carried him to the end of the beach where he washed up dead.
The coast guard, the ambulance and the Fire Service EKAB helped his transfer to Lefkada hospital where doctors could only confirm his death.
The young man from the city of Trikala, central Greece, had came to Lefkada with his friends for his bachelor party.
He was going to marry his girl-friend in mid-June and had planned the trip and the bachelor party with his friends for quite some time.
His friends, who were present at the tragic event, were reportedly horrified to see him being washed away by the waves unconscious.
At the time of the tragedy winds were blowing with 7 to 8 Beaufort and there was reportedly a warning.
It is not the first time, someone is drown in Kathisma beach. which is famous for its soft sand and the very often rough sea.
