A 50-year-old man was arrested on Monday morning after he confessed to police that he had killed his 84-year-old mother.
According to initial information, the man called the police short after 9 o’ clock in the morning saying that he had killed his mother with a knife.
Police officers who rushed to the family home in Haidari suburb of western Athens found the elderly woman dead in her bed with a wound in her neck and in a lake of blood. They also discovered the knife the man claimed to have used for the murder.
Officers arrested the man whose motive remains unclear until now.
Media reported that the man was suffering from psychological issues.
Neighbors told reporters that he has been living and taking care of his mother who had serious health issues in the last couple of years, while another son has been living in a diffrent area.
“It was a very quiet family,” a neighbor said adding “however, nobody knows what happens behind closed doors.”
UPDATE
The mother was suffering from dementia and her son reportedly told police that he killed her “to relief her.”
It is remains unclear when the crime took place.
Citing neighbors, now media claim that the murderer did not have any psychological issues.
