Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued a weather warning of an upcoming heatwave with temperatures up to 44 degrees Celsius and forecast to last six days at least.
Which areas will be mostly affected.
The heatwave is forecast for almost the entire week starting tomorrow, Monday, July 21, and is likely to end on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The highest temperatures – maximum temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius – will be recorded from Tuesday, July 22, onward in mainland Greece.°
It is noted that:
A. In the coastal areas of the mainland, the maximum temperature will be 2 to 4 degrees lower than the temperature in mainland Greece.
B. Minimum temperatures from Wednesday, July 23, in urban centers will remain high and will range around 26° to 28° Celsius.
EMY Heatwave Warning
1. On Monday, July 21, high temperatures will prevail in all of mainland Greece, the Ionian Sea and the Dodecanese. The maximum temperatures will reach:
a) in the mainland 38° to 40° C and possibly locally in Thessaly and central Macedonia 41° C. In Athens and Thessaloniki 38° C.
b) in the Ionian islands and the Dodecanese 35° to 36° C.
2. On Tuesday, July 22, temperature will rise further. Maximum temperatures will reach:
a) in mainland Greece 39° to 41° C, in places in central Macedonia 42°C and in Thessaly 43° C. In Athens and Thessaloniki 39° to 40° C.
b) in the Ionian islands and the islands of the Eastern Aegean 37° to 38° and in the Dodecanese locally 39° C.
3. On Wednesday, July 23, the temperature will remain at high levels. It is estimated that the maximum values will reach:
a) in the mainland 40° to 41° and locally in the east 42° to 43° C, in Athens 40° and in Thessaloniki 39°C.
b) in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese 38° to 40° C.
c) in the Ionian islands 37 to 39° Celsius.
The emergency bulletin will be updated every 24 hours, when the temperatures will be redefined per day and a forecast for the end of the heat wave will be made, EMY noted.
